Johny Boy!!!

The first promise has been fulfilled, that is, the promise to lead us as, a sulking nation through the Digicel Caribbean Championships and Victory was the Prize, U$120000 dollars to the Pocket and yet a nation mourns. The people of Jamaica have always been a proud people and whilst we may not have been holders of this regional trophy for over a decade, it none the less seems insignificant to the greater prize of qualifying for the World Cup. The Problem however is not that their is no appreciation for the recent victory/glory,m but that we as Jamaicans don't believe and more so cannot conceive of Falling once risen. This feeling is evident in the sentiments expressed toward the regional Cricket Team, so whilst your Victory in the Digicel tournament is a grand one, the lack of fanfare is not a result of a lack of confidence in the 'Barnes' Factor.
Though commending the achievement, it must however be said that the few thousand fans who were loyal to he Jamaican football cause were less than happy with the way in which the cup was won, looking for more fluency and style. The Performances were far from consistent and this many would attribute to the system employed. It must also be said that whilst Theodore Whitmore had the team for a few friendlies, he was very stylish in the way victories were achieved, so to use the excuse of a absence of stars is null and void in this discussion.
Of grand importance coming from this victory in the regional tournament is the fact that we have qualified for the Gold Cup and so our sights must now be set on achieving Glory there also. No less will be expected coming out of a run of nine games unbeaten of which eight were victories beating the likes of Mexico, Honduras and Canada. The Crop of players that we now have are expected to carry that momentum through to the Gold Cup and be relentless in their effort to restore the pride of a nation who subsequent to Rene Simoes' disaster management , was planing on a trip Home to Africa.
While we look forward to the Gold Cup however, the Captain still has no idea for sure who the coach then will be as Johny's tenure was for the Digicel Cup and so we clearly and urgently need to figure out where the genius will come from to lead us to victory there also, in the meantime, a just Reggae Boyz mi seh, more money more cup dirty or clean

Mirror or Glass? The Politcs of Sight

Two years in office and many Jamaicans are asking whether or not the government of the day is reflective of the way Political Parties have been historically, are they merely a mirror of what politicians truly are, rational self interested greedy individuals or is it that they are really striving to be different? The Jury is still out on the question fore-mentioned, but one thing is certain , that is, the country is in dire turmoil and in need of a miracle. There is no doubt that the current administration has done little to physically thwart the crime problem plaguing the country, but it cannot be said that its for a lack of effort, but then again, have the efforts been such that they were ever realistically going to even pinch at the Crime Problem we face? So far we have seen a resigning commissioner, a new Minister of National Security and ate dissolving of numerous boards. Where success has been had should not be ignored and so far , the government of the day has successfully addressed two crises, namely, a horrendous hurricane season and a massive food crisis with little impact felt by the Jamaican people. But now there are issues of trickery abound as pundits reflect on the way the government has sought to shadow the immediate and foreseeable shock that the current financial crisis will have on our struggling and trying economy. It reminds many Jamaicans of a time when under the P.N.P there was similar denial of what is now a rampant and world infamous Crime Problem, you tel me , Mirror or Glass politics. One thing that cannot be denied is the way in which many high ranking heads have been rolling as the Prime Minister seeks to deliver on his promise to rid the state of a tradition of corruption. The latest issue rests with the struggling state owned Jamaica Urban Transit Company ( J.U.T.C) and almost immediately another board has resigned. Before this scandal was that of the Jamaica Tourist Board (J.T.B) and the questionable way under which that body resigned. What is for sure however is that this government is bent on getting results and people will have to move on if none is received. Transparency seems to be the order of the day for this government , but that is not enough, Yes people want to be informed and aware, but in a troubled society where crime, poverty and economic instability abounds, people also need an action government. Accountability does spell action, but action is not just to fire some people, action is required to elevate a people of its perils. So as the current government moves forward , it brings to mind the words of a once popular song that they should all be able to identify with and indeed be singing the words to... "I'm Talking to the man in the Mirror.. I'm asking him to change his ways" and while they may be making efforts, the worst result they can have outgoing is to be likened to what many Jamaicans refer to as a wasteful and solemn P.N.P government who are doing all they can now to reclaim some credibility to the Jamaican People. So as you stand in front that Breakable Crystal Object that is Politics, what do you perceive, A glass or a Mirror, i say define your own destiny.
