Johny Boy!!!

The first promise has been fulfilled, that is, the promise to lead us as, a sulking nation through the Digicel Caribbean Championships and Victory was the Prize, U$120000 dollars to the Pocket and yet a nation mourns. The people of Jamaica have always been a proud people and whilst we may not have been holders of this regional trophy for over a decade, it none the less seems insignificant to the greater prize of qualifying for the World Cup. The Problem however is not that their is no appreciation for the recent victory/glory,m but that we as Jamaicans don't believe and more so cannot conceive of Falling once risen. This feeling is evident in the sentiments expressed toward the regional Cricket Team, so whilst your Victory in the Digicel tournament is a grand one, the lack of fanfare is not a result of a lack of confidence in the 'Barnes' Factor.
Though commending the achievement, it must however be said that the few thousand fans who were loyal to he Jamaican football cause were less than happy with the way in which the cup was won, looking for more fluency and style. The Performances were far from consistent and this many would attribute to the system employed. It must also be said that whilst Theodore Whitmore had the team for a few friendlies, he was very stylish in the way victories were achieved, so to use the excuse of a absence of stars is null and void in this discussion.
Of grand importance coming from this victory in the regional tournament is the fact that we have qualified for the Gold Cup and so our sights must now be set on achieving Glory there also. No less will be expected coming out of a run of nine games unbeaten of which eight were victories beating the likes of Mexico, Honduras and Canada. The Crop of players that we now have are expected to carry that momentum through to the Gold Cup and be relentless in their effort to restore the pride of a nation who subsequent to Rene Simoes' disaster management , was planing on a trip Home to Africa.
While we look forward to the Gold Cup however, the Captain still has no idea for sure who the coach then will be as Johny's tenure was for the Digicel Cup and so we clearly and urgently need to figure out where the genius will come from to lead us to victory there also, in the meantime, a just Reggae Boyz mi seh, more money more cup dirty or clean

Mirror or Glass? The Politcs of Sight

Two years in office and many Jamaicans are asking whether or not the government of the day is reflective of the way Political Parties have been historically, are they merely a mirror of what politicians truly are, rational self interested greedy individuals or is it that they are really striving to be different? The Jury is still out on the question fore-mentioned, but one thing is certain , that is, the country is in dire turmoil and in need of a miracle. There is no doubt that the current administration has done little to physically thwart the crime problem plaguing the country, but it cannot be said that its for a lack of effort, but then again, have the efforts been such that they were ever realistically going to even pinch at the Crime Problem we face? So far we have seen a resigning commissioner, a new Minister of National Security and ate dissolving of numerous boards. Where success has been had should not be ignored and so far , the government of the day has successfully addressed two crises, namely, a horrendous hurricane season and a massive food crisis with little impact felt by the Jamaican people. But now there are issues of trickery abound as pundits reflect on the way the government has sought to shadow the immediate and foreseeable shock that the current financial crisis will have on our struggling and trying economy. It reminds many Jamaicans of a time when under the P.N.P there was similar denial of what is now a rampant and world infamous Crime Problem, you tel me , Mirror or Glass politics. One thing that cannot be denied is the way in which many high ranking heads have been rolling as the Prime Minister seeks to deliver on his promise to rid the state of a tradition of corruption. The latest issue rests with the struggling state owned Jamaica Urban Transit Company ( J.U.T.C) and almost immediately another board has resigned. Before this scandal was that of the Jamaica Tourist Board (J.T.B) and the questionable way under which that body resigned. What is for sure however is that this government is bent on getting results and people will have to move on if none is received. Transparency seems to be the order of the day for this government , but that is not enough, Yes people want to be informed and aware, but in a troubled society where crime, poverty and economic instability abounds, people also need an action government. Accountability does spell action, but action is not just to fire some people, action is required to elevate a people of its perils. So as the current government moves forward , it brings to mind the words of a once popular song that they should all be able to identify with and indeed be singing the words to... "I'm Talking to the man in the Mirror.. I'm asking him to change his ways" and while they may be making efforts, the worst result they can have outgoing is to be likened to what many Jamaicans refer to as a wasteful and solemn P.N.P government who are doing all they can now to reclaim some credibility to the Jamaican People. So as you stand in front that Breakable Crystal Object that is Politics, what do you perceive, A glass or a Mirror, i say define your own destiny.

Why Obama may not Win.

Most of us would like Obama to win, is that a fair statement? Maybe not. What is fair to say however, is that for a large number of the US White Population, the thought of a Black Man in the White House is pretty unnerving. White Folks probably ain't ready for a Black President, judge for yourself.

Nobody Here!!!

The Phrase 'nobody here' could be interpreted in two ways when one speaks of Stephen Francis. We Could easily be referring  to the fact that in the eyes of the JAAA, he's a nobody here, atleast that's the way he's been made to feel. and i the other instance, we could easily be referring to the fact that , as it relates to his post as head of Utech and M.V.P track club here in  Jamaica, a knock on his door would reveal there is " Nobody Here". Lets traverse these issues in retrospect.

With all the hype surrounding the success of the athletes in China and the numerous honors being meted out, many people are still asking what of the coaches? Prior to the 2008 Olympics, Stephen  Francis was top sports news maker, as he was there calling out to the JAAA to not only do more for athletes, but to recognize his status as a top coach in the island, to the point where he was left off the Olympic coaching team. That for many was nothing but a big 'Diss', taking into account that atleast 60% of the team was coached by Francis and so  his expertise was seen as compulsory in helping to prepare the Nations' athletes for the Games.  Well if this were a quiz, we'd all be WRONG!!! As the title suggests, the answer is simple and easy, Francis is 'Nobody Here', and that is the message that many got from the decision to leave him out in the cold as the  Nation stepped out to break numerous records in Beijing.

The other lens through which the term 'Nobody Here' can be analysed is that of absence. In respect to absence, we speak of the fact that Francis is no longer at the helm of the prestigious UTECH Athletics Programme, but has opted to migrate his expertise. What's disheartening is not that he is no longer planning to hone is wisdom at UTEC, but he has also opted to take it out of Jamaica. In light of the situation outlined above, it is no surprise that feeling unappreciated, Francis would be heading for the door, looking to cash in on his enunciated status as the best Track and Field coach in the World. The word coming from the Maximizing Velocity and Power(M.V.P)   camp  is that Francis is leaving because he's been getting increased demands to coach international athletes that may not sit well with Jamaica. True this man be, but we as Jamaicans know how it is when we feel unappreciated, we quickly lose attachment to whatever body we had been loyal to.

The association of the term ' Nobody Here' with the name Stephen Francis is the mark of a sad and gloomy future for Jamaica. Think of what is being lost; first we are losing one of the top coaches in the World , the most successful track club in Jamaica's history, the appeal to tourists of coming to Jamaica  with the opportunity to watch the best athletes in the world train in our  shores. Those at the helm of the JAAA need to hurriedly get their act together and stop playing politics. They need to first bestow Stephen Francis with all the Accolades and Honor that he deserves and the same to all the other coaches that contributed to the Olympic Success. We cannot at any time have local world class coaches feeling like they are 'Nobody Here' or very soon we will have in terms of expertise, Nobody Here!

This is JamRock!!! Jaaaaaaaaaaahhhh!!!

Indeed, it is like a scene from the 300 movie, where the brave Theodoris led his mighty Reggae Boyz out to the field of battle. Drawn from a small nation of just over 2.3 million people, the brave 24 led as front runners of an army of 30,000 fans crammed inside  the National Stadium to witness the death of the Once mighty King-  Mexico and  their would-be successors, the abitious Hondurans- lol, They must have never heard about the Office!!!  Jamaica is once more on course to save their African Campaign with 1-0 victoires over both Mexico and Honduras here on the 'Rock'.

The second victory was made even more sweeter with the news  that Canada had played to a scoreless draw with Mexico. the ideal resut would have been a Canadian Win, but as jamaicans, we don't need a window of oppertunity, all we need is the Window, we always create our own oppertunities. The group is now up in shambles as Mexico being under pressure will have to Win to atleast save face as well as save the Job of an under- fire Coach. Honduras on the other hand will engage the match on full attack as they must win, leaving an open defense for Mexico to exploit, should be a thriller. All Jamaica will have to do is Win atleast, never mind how much, just win, and the rest id up to faith, and we al know how she envies Stella, so she must be smiling at her win win situation in Jamaica. It feels like 1997 when i was singing " Rise Up" with all the hype of the Reggae Boyz and the fact that all Jamaicans knew of the fact- "Jesus Saves".

The best part of the Reggae Boys' victories is the fact they were filled with a new confidence and they won in style. They never withdrew, not once, they kept attacking and constructively too, yes i am talking about the Reggae Bowyz of Jamaica, they played proud and assertive; with  class, speed, skill and flare, sound like a footballer i once knew, oh wait i still know him, only now is is the coach. Theodore Whitmore, the "Magician"  showed that the 'Tappa' way is best. There was no Ping Pong , tennis football that we have come to know of the Jamaica team, a just a passing game and everybody showed up. The most impresive players  however were Jamaal Campbel-Rice, Ian 'Pepe' Goodison , Tyrone Marshall and brace for this one- Claude Davis, yes people, Claude Davis. He has been reborn and both Mexico and Honduras felt the wrath of a man coming from Exile. John Barnes must  be thinking, " i got the  dream team".  The word on the Street however is that Whitmore must keep the job, but we wll see how much the team changes once Barnes comes in, he would be a fool to try changing anything, he just needs to work with the Magic, don't fight it, embrace it!!

The Next match will be on the 19th of November and i don't know about anyone else, but i'll be there on my teeth. I wouldnot want to be Canadian on that Day, it doesn't look good for them, after all speed kills and we do have the fastest people on earth living here, lol!!!

What is the world coming to?

I have always heard about this particular place with a certain type of BULLA. These are not the type of bullas we are used to in Jamaica because these BULLAS walk, talk, drive. The type that a real Jamaican would "bun bare fire pan." To hear from others but to see for yourself is a phrase that remains true.

I went to this talent show with the hope of just relaxing and taking a break from my everyday reading. However, when a particular group was called upon I was taken aback. As a true Jamaican princess, I am extremely intolerant to certain types of behaviour including the BULLA FEST which seems to be a daily activity in this particular place.

Can you imagine someone that God created a male coming unto a stage all dressed up in female apparel and strutting his stuff like a female fashion model.(BULLET, BULLET, BULLET) At this talent show it was not one, nor two but three of these BULLAS displaying how they get their freak on. I started to bun bare fire on the BULLAS and was so irate that i had to exit the room. Some may say I should not have been surprised or acted the way I did because being in this particular place where the BULLAS have all the freedom in the world anything should be expected.

However, when I thought it just could not get any worst, it certainly did. I am used to seeing females with "hickies" moreso than men, and if a man has one I usually say well him "G" mark him up. Bwoi oh bwoi, but to see a man with a bag a "hicky" that has been given by another man is just straight up wrong.(BULLET, BULLET, BULLET) I found this even more difficult to fathom because it was a "yardy man;" a Jamaican youth gone fully "BULLAFIED" with another Jamaican in this particular place. Being the bold person I am, I told this particular youth that he is in need of repentance or else his soul is going to burn in hell.

God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve. This makes it even clearer that it was God's intention for his children to remain straight; but the BULLA dem just lean up the thing so. Their actions have made me "crossed, angry, miserable." MORE FIRE FI A BULLA!

This is so sick

Total Recall!!!

No Brethren, this is not a remake of Arnold Schwarzenegger's decade old classic, this is the trick performed by Jamaica's most renowned Magician, yes, that man Theodore 'Tappa' Whitmore. The exodus of one time messiah Rene Simoes has seen once more the ascendancy of Theodore Whitmore at the helm of the Football programme in the capacity of Caretaker Manager where e will keep the fire blazing until a certain John Barnes assumes his new post. The question on everybody's mind however is where did all these players emmerge from after having been though not good enough, misfits, injured among other arguments for omission.
Just Who are the players in the Total Recall, Claude Davis, Damion Stewart, i thought they were both injured, so how is it they are both back in the team injury free upon Simoes departure? Dane Richards, Omar Cummings, thought not to be good enough by Simoes, i makes u wanty to question Whitmore's judgment.  Up steps the goal machine and the sped demon,   Marlon King and Jaamal Campbell- Rice, maybe Whitmore has the treasury on his side, it was thought both too expensive to fly them home as well as they were seen as misfits after not being able to attain early enough releases from their clubs.  i face no one has seen in the longest time, Jermain 'Teddy' Jonson, i thought he retired, i guess Whitmore must also be an explorer to have located him in the wilderness, where was all this talent at when we realy needed them. Rene Simoes had be givne much sympathy but now i'm at once frustrated and rejuvenated.
the funny thing with this team of outcasts recalled is that , whilst Simoes couldn't work with them, they where the last best team representing Jamaica under Whitmore's wings prior to Simoes' arrival. As it is popularly said, Simoes's tactics have outlived their use, furthermore, it is theorized that asking so many EPL conditioned and EPL minded players to switch to a short knock style of play within the course of three or more days after spending months in a Mental state of mind for the British style hard nosed type of play was always a recipe for disaster. The Worst thing that could happen for Simoes' legacy if for this team of Total rejects that have been placed on Tappa's Total Recall List were to achieve a miraculous advance to the final round. Let's just sit back and enjoy the show, the Magician is on Stage!!!

Argument Done!

And so it's final. Portia Simpson-Miller has been "reconfirmed as the leader of the PNP". I hate to say I told you so, but I'll make an exception in this case. Despite her shortcomings Portia Simpson Miller is the only person who can guide the PNP through these dark and penniless days. Peter Philips simply does not illicit the same kind of response that she does, Portia is a woman on a mission, Peter is a man who thinks he is 'qualified' for the position, and that's the difference. If Bredda P thought he was some kind of a "Barack Obama" coming to 'change course' because of some perceived 'urgency of now', he was simply not the change the delegates  believed in.

But what role will Bredda P play in this new administration? Will Mama P do a 'clean sweep' and replace some of the familiar faces?  We shall see. But I know for a fact that the young guns, those who were vociferous in  defense of their leader, will be lining up to receive their due reward. As for Okola, Spencer et al, I think their political days are numbered.

Speculation aside though, the country is awaiting the details of this "progressive agenda" being touted. Is it just Democratic Socialism  by a different name?  Questions, so many questions. We wait for answers.

Jamaican Economy vs Barbados Economy

In the business world, everyone is paid in two coins: cash and experience. Take the experience first; the cash will come later. However based on how the Jamaican economy has been doing it can not be said that experience has been utilized the way it ought to be (if it has been taken) and it is even more obvious that the cash has not come and seems so far away.

Quite frequently it has been heard that 'nothing nah gwan fi we' in terms of how well the Jamaican economy has been doing. When asked what have led to this, the answers usually include: too much poor people deh bout, too much violence and poor economic policies. As it relates to these answers one may wonder which is more responsible for a stifling effect on our economy and what ought to be done so that Jamaica may bask in economic glory (a dream that seems quite far fetched).

In Barbados (our Caribbean sister country) the economy seems 'to be moving on up.' In comparison to the Jamaican economy, the economy of this country may be described as an eagle which keeps soaring to new heights as opposed to a common hen which keeps perking about. Is it fair however to compare both economies when Barbados boasts a literacy level which is far above that of Jamaica, a lower rate of violence and economic policies which are 'stricter than strict.' Money is not easily sent out of Barbados ( it was not until recently that money could be sent from Western Union) as permission has to be received from the Bank of Barbados as opposed to Jamaica where one can send and receive money as he\she likes.

Additionally, i recently expressed an interest to open a US account in Barbados and was told that i would have to receive permission from the Bank of Barbados and that this was a privilege usually reserved for 'big businesses' as an equivalent of 500,000 Bajan dollars would always have to be in the account. Restrictions, restrictions and more restrictions. However this begs the question of whether the Jamaican economy would have been better if it was fashioned with such restrictions as the Bajan economy.

It is time for a change, a change I am sure we all have been waiting for when the Jamaican economy can have a positive turn around. As a nation we need to stop biting off more than we can chew, and then chewing anyway. Things may come to those who wait, but only the things left by those who hustle. Countries like Barbados should be viewed as hustlers (the government gets 2% of every dollar that comes into the country and it makes it extremely difficult for any to get out). Let us stop hoping to do and begin to do as that is the only way things will get better.

The Prodigal Son? John Barnes for Jamaica!!!

The unexpected firing of Rene Simoes still has the nation rocking sideways, but i guess it should have has us in amazement rather than surprise. Being amazed would have had all Jamaicans wondering " What Next" while Surprise leaves us thinking "What is going On?" The Captain it seems has always had a trick up his sleeve and with the mass outcry for something different from the technical team, it seems that time has finally come, In Steps John Barnes, probably the greatest name in sports outside of Track and Field ever associated with Jamaica. He has returned home, and yes home, he was born here in Jamaica and the time seems ripe for his return. The move also seems to be somewhat a rational one to invite a Coach that is more than familiar with the way the Jamaican game is played. There are admittedly many Brazilian fans in Jamaica, but the reality is , we are a very physical nation and the business of slowing down the game to knock the ball around has never appealed to the Jamaican Player on the field. What's Funny is that the last time there was much impressive play by the Jamaican team was with the short time Theodore Whitmore was in charge, a player with much exposure to the English game, thinking about it, its a style well suited for this crop of players. Where does the bulk of our players develop their skills, yes Britain and so to ask them to revert to something starkly different to that of the Brazilian style of play obviously has been a system of conflict within their own person. There is no disrespect to the efforts to Simoes because he has done much for the development of Jamaican football, but it seems that his approach has rendered itself obsolete for the Jamaican context. The question is however, will there be much fanfare for the return of John Barnes to Jamaica, killing of Goats, jerking of chicken, feasting and the like? Well as it stands, we have a new coach and he will have to prove to the Jamaican people that despite his small resume, he is the right man for the job. One thing is sure to happen with his appointment, he will have the full understanding of the players being so familiar with their strengths coming form the British Game. Time now finally for Claude and Stew peas to shine it would seem, Marlon King, Campbell- Rice and Omar Daley and yes even 'Bibi' Gardener will no doubt be more comfortable not having to reshape their playing style and instead showcase in a forum fit for them, the skills they have been able to hone over their in the U.K. Come home John Barnes because a Jamaica u live!! but for how Long!!! Well he better be able to bake, because every Reggae Boy Fan is waiting to taste that Pudding to see the proof.

Professors, Kings and Magicians

The  Jamaican sports fanatics are still bewildered by the decision to axe  the man dubbed the Professor after consecutive losses away to bothe Mexico and Honduras, but was that the  answer to the problem of an under-achieving football team. Many on the other hand while shocked at Simoes' departure are not at all flustered as they stil consider the coaching talents of Theodore 'Tappa' Whitmore to be very competent.  Prior to Simoes' appointment, it wa sthe magic touch of Whitmore as coach that  captivated many at the National Stadium. Whitmore dubbed the Magician both locally and internationally whist still a player, seemd to have transcended that kind of flare to his coaching style. His ability to pick the right team and instill inthem some sort of philosophy made for soem attractive football and the type reminiscent a young  Brazil team. The magic and trickery though had to stop as a more scientific approach was adopted by the Professor who immediately fell out of terms with Marlon King. King has been Jamaica's most prolfic striker in recent times with almost a goal a game average and yet he could not find favor with Simoes. What is ironic however is the fact just  after the losses incurred in which not a single goal was scored, the outcasted King turned up for a similar strength team to score two goals to beat a similar strenth team to that of Mexico and Honduras. Now that schools out and the profesor is gone home, i think it is high time for the King to play and enjoy the tricks of the MAgician. He will no doubt be part of Whitmore's plans and somebody needs to retire Deon Burton and for the love of God, will somebody find Claude Davis or Damion Stewart? Maybe now also, soembody will pay attention to the work being done by a certan Dane Richards who performed so well for Whitmore prior to Simoes' arrival and yet no call up despite wanting so bad to represent the country.

1 2 3 Green Light- Bruce on the Go- One year On

Two things have always remained constant in my life, the first is a will to achieve and the other is to stay politically neutral and worst of all, stay away from the J.L.P if ever i was to become partisan. Well, this is what many would call the prime of my life and a decision on the latter constant must be made and here it is, i will forever vote Jamaica and right now my vote is leaning on the green side and is based solely on results. What can be said about the One year Anniversary of the J.L.P government. The first sentiment for me is " not bad, not bad at all" taking into account the circumstances under which the Bruce Golding led administration entered office on the back of a devastating Hurricane which rode the waves of the first economic slump in about 15years, i have to say, it  hasn't been politics as usual, but a lesson in management that must be commended on all fronts. The Rice and Flour debacle left many Jamaicans thinking to themselves, " Farin a di place" myself included, but alas, we are still here, thanks to a carefully crafted management decison to buffer the shocks of the escalating oil prices and the threat of a economic depresion in the United States.
Many polls done locally by varioous media houses have all  gven the administration atleat a B grade and that in a course as hard as JA07 is like getting and A+ in much easier courses. Amid a depressing crime problem and much pressure form the Opposition, Bruce a do him ting. The biggest move so far for Bruce has been his stern defense of te Jamaican Way of life which won over the hearts of even the most die-hearted P.N.P party loyalist. What was it he said- " Not In My Cabinet" and that sentiment has been manifesting itself in so many other aspects of his ardent managemnt of the Public Resources. In the J.C.F, he has led the charge ensuring  that as much as possible, Corruption is rid, with so many arrests being made in the heart of the police force itself. aone of the biggest criticism of so many previous administration has been its inability to 'represent the people', again, no problem here.
The recently crowned 'Political Man of the Year' has his own radio/T.V show where CITIZENS, yes as opposed to Members/Loyalists can and do cal in to air their concerns and challenges. So many have been calling  to the talk show to express gratitude for hel recieved, bothe personally and Communally, its his effort to represent the needs of a people, as opposed to fulfilling political aspirations of a personal nature. Now mi nuh know about anybody else, but the best video footage of the year for me is not even the olypic victory of  either Usain Bolt or Shelly- ann Fraser, but that of teh Prime Minister on T.V on the site of the Collapsed Bridge calling in to the NWA to get people out as soon as possible to actually do their job and ensure people can move freely from point A to poin B. That is all it really takes most of the time, just a call from the minister, not just the Prime Minister, but any minister, that is hands on management and if its a political ploy in  search of votes, it got my vote and yes , Mi get Trick. That fro me is the most powerful video this year and on that note i have one thing to say to Bruce Golding as head of this country in such fine form- We Shall Overcome!!!

Sacrificial Lamb

This is Jamaica at its best, politics, politics politics!! Well somebody had to be sacrificed, i know Jesus Saves, But Simoes seems to have met his own Judas after seeking to resurrect what is a Lazarus Football programme. Now let's be realistic, Jamaica could not have beaten Mexico, and given the way the Mexicans had to fight to beat the Hondurans, which Jamaican can say they expected anything more that what we got. The people on the streets all agree on one thing, we don't have the technical capacity to compete against these teams, case in point, it's been 10years since the Tour of France and the 'Reggae Boyz' still can't string a few passes together to break down a defense, no fault of the coach. Simoes, that's just the way it is, it was either you or the Captain and we all know how that set. How do we expect great things from a man, who when he walked in was trying to start a car on a steep, and yes a car as old as a Cartina, this is a joke thing. We are all hopeful of Jamaica going to Africa, but when you send a team to a World Cup Qualifier less that 24hrs before a match in the Azteca and expect miracles, Then its clear hat you view Jamaicans as DAFT , and when as an association you ask a technical Director to make do with Local talent because the it's too expensive to fly home the overseas, more technically sound players, then as the doctor says- "Captain you Lose, Yah , You Lose. I don't know about you, but i think it to be sad when Simoes must put Theodore 'tappa' Whitmore on a fitness programme in consideration for selection, and when after 10years, the best defender is still the man called Goodison, who thank god for him, or else we would have picked up 7-0 from Mexico and 4-0 form Honduras- Good-1- Son.
I heard the Phone call was like this:
Captain- " Rene, Morning Man, You was Sleeping?"
Rene- " Yes Captain, I Just got...."
Captain- " Anyways, before you go any further, Sorry for the 1:00 o'clock wake up, but You Fired, just go Brazil, Don't bother come to Jamaica... Nuh Linga" lol, do yu ting Captain, Do yu Ting!!

The Olympics have been over few days now and the euphoria is still high in Jamaica. But the question must be asked, Why they just won't let we live? simple answer, Bad-mind is Active- suh in the words of our head of government, "tell dem to tek weh themself" ha ha ha. The Politics of Brown-Nosing

In the world of politics, the all too familiar presence of 'brown-nosers' often leave the rest of us wondering if is just 'bad mind wi bad mind'. I've had my fair dose of these characters in my years, and I am quick to point out that these brown-nosers are cut from a different cloth. I have drawn the conclusion that these characters are not bad people, they are just very focused individuals, they know what they want, and are prepared to to whatever it takes to get it. At once, these guys appear to be well-mannered, seemingly intelligent and they talk a good game. They claim to know how the leader's mind works, and some even go as far as embracing the leader's values, however non-progressive they may be. I've never been able to put my hand on what make these guys tick, but I'll tell you this, they do a a damn good job of making it appear that they stand for something. Inevitably, we the common folk always have the last laugh, even if it is behind their backs, because you see, career brown-nosers don't last long, they usually have no independence of thought and can't be counted on to think and lead through a crisis.

The PNP Leadership race is a case-study in the making. We see that Mama P has appointed all of 11 spokespersons. Most of these surrogates are rising stars in the PNP. All of them educated, with bright futures ahead of them. I think they all understand that in order to cement a place in a future administration, however long away that is, they must plant their roots very early and very carefully. While all of them may not agree with the way Mama P 'run tings' they understand that this woman has a remarkable ability to get people to follow her. After all, she still remains the most popular political figure since Micheal Manley. So how does a young, progressive socialist with his eye on a place in history make his mark? He Brown-Noses. This new generation of politicians understand very well how important it is to stake your claim, you can't go in on the fence or appear to be wishy-washy, you won't stand a chance. For those 11 surrogates, some more seasoned than others, having Mama P re-elected will determine their future in the PNP. Brown-Nosing in this instance therefore, is not a choice, it's a survival tactic, and only time will tell if any of these guys emerge from the mud with their brains in tact.

As for Peter Philips , I'm still at a loss to why this guy is running. He is an intelligent, erudite statesman with all the credentials to make a formidable opponent, but he lacks that people touch, that special something that Mama P has mastered That is why all the young heavyweights of the party are brown-nosing up to Portia. This new generation of Brown Nosers have an uncanny sixth sense; they know a champion when they smell one.

Gold Rush!!!

by Nyan 'Excess' Whittingham

Jamaica's Usain Bolt, right, changes to teammate Asafa Powell as they win gold in the final of the men's 4x100-meter relay during the athletics competitions in the National Stadium at the Beijing 2008 Olympics in Beijing

The Olympic games are just about over and Jamaica's medal count "currently" stands at ten(10) medals with six(6) being Gold. The use of inverted commas before is indicative of the  fact that just like 'current', Jamaica with the 'electric' performances of Usain 'Lightening' Bolt has done everything in its 'power' to send Tsunami type 'Shock' Waves throughout Asia. Bolt himself has secured his third gold medal of the games in three World Record Times. The sentiment in JamRock is that " Its Yam and Banana Time Now' and that is in reference to the perceived over and dominance of drugged up athletes that once ruled the games. Now the onus is on the Jamaican Government to ensure that the Beijing Gold Rush catches on here at home. Yes we refer to the new possibilities that our success their has opened up for Jamaica's tourism, Agriculture and entertainment sectors. Dutty Wine, Nuh Linga, Tek weh Yuself, Gully Creepa, the dance culture has been sold to the world, and yes even Asafa Powell was dancing after anchoring the world record winning 4 by 100m relay team in a time of 37.10sec. Everyone wants to know what it is that these Jamaican Phenoms have in their diet and everyone in the world now knows our national anthem. These games highlighted the greatest Ambassadors that Jamaica has ever had and it is now ripe time for the country to benefit. Our entertainers are now the demand the world over, the country has regained a major part of its 'smile Jamaica' image and the agriculture  is of major curiosity, so let them buy them if just to test them, lol, ship more Banana, more Sugar Cane, More Yams, crazy exports to the world's richest Labs, let them test while we get rich. Now instead of going to the U.S.A to see the world's best? train, every little boy and girl will say to Mom and Dad, Lets go to Jamaica, Usain Bolt and Shelly-Ann lives their, Asafa Powell lives there, Melaine Walker lives there, they all live in Jamaica, the Best live in Jamaica and the world knows that now, can u see the gold rush for the locals. Instead we hear of a government who plans to declare National Holiday, ha ha ha ha, so political, give them a day to waste while tomorrow they go hungry, brilliant!!Brilliant i tell you!!! Jamaicans instead need to hear how this Government and any incumbent plans to surf this wave of success after our athletes have done everything to ensure that Jamaica - Sell OFF!!!

Nuh Linga wid Brand Jamaica

By Paul Thompson.

By now you have all seen Usain Bolt's celebratory dance after he copped the big one in Beijing. It is now quite clear that the secret to Jamaica's economic success lies outside of the all-inclusive properties and inside of the communities where we live, work, and play. It was fascinating to see the interest of the International Media in Jamaica, some reporters even going as far as requesting hotel rooms for Boys and Girls Champs next year.

With Usain Bolt now the most popular athlete in the world, it is not inconceivable to think of Jamaica as primarily an Events Destination. And when I speak of events, I mean everything ranging from Bembe, to Champs to the Curry Festival in Westmoreland. We need a comprehensive re-think of how we position Jamaica as a destination and we have to put the Jamaican people at the centre of everything.

In fact, the idea has been banded about for a while, and the powers that be would have us believe that they have been doing a tremendous amount of strategic thinking and action in this direction. The truth however, is that Usain Bolt did more to promote Jamaica in 9.69 seconds than JTI and JTB have done in the last 5 years. You saw not only a superior sportsman on display, you saw Jamaican culture being represented in its truest form.

Those idiots who thought Bolt's "nuh linga" was over the top still fail to recognize that these monstrosities being built on the North Coast will not be filled by the traditional North Amercian demographic, but will increasingly be occupied by persons from as far away as China and Japan who have fallen in love with our culture and our people.

What needs to happen at this point is for us to find synergies that can work for the benefit of all. People will pay to come here to see Bolt and Shelly-Ann and the hundreds of others perform, they want to experience a Premiere League match, a Champs, a Golf tournament, Drag Racing in Clarendon (or on Hope Road) , Push Cart Derby and the hundreds of corner leagues that abound in Jamaica. These are real opportunities. People are willing to come to Jamaica for an experience that goes beyond the beach and into the community. Combine these sporting events with our vibrant nightlife and culture, and Jamaica will truly become this place where everyone wants to visit.

Instead of running that same n old 'One Love Commercial' telling people 'yeah mon" and 'irie mon' and all that bullshit, we need to seriously invest in our sports and culture and strategically use those people as brand ambassadors for Jamaica. Then we can finally get rid of that damn fake Ras trying to sing over Bob Marley's tune. Wake up Jamaica! we don't need oil to be rich, we have a unique people and culture and we are adored and revered in every corner of the world. You can use the Internet to promote your communities and your events as tourist attractions. Use up the Youtube and the Facebook and the Blogs and all these things and tell the world that Jamaica is more than a beach, we're a country.

Golden Nation- Jamaica to the World!!!

Beijing Olympics Athletics Womens 100mUsain Bolt- A World ChampionShericka Williams

Already a haul of five(5) medals , Jamaica is on its way to achieving its best medal haul in Olympic history. Leading the way is the Gold medal success of both Usain 'lightening 'Bolt and Shelly-Ann 'Smiley' Fraser. In what has been dubbed the "Awesome Threesome", the clean sweep success of the women in the 100m women is one of the most historic and proudest moments already recorded by Jamaica so far. With all the rave however, we cannot forget that we have again been heartbroken. The disappointing performances of Dorian Scott and Asafa Powell cannot be ignored. So heartbreaking has been Asafa's performance, Jamaican's have been busy celebrating the 6th place finish of Michael Frater who ran a personal Best while going below ten(10) seconds for the first time in his career. Once again people have concluded that as opposed to national pride, Asafa has failed us once by denying us the right as Jamaican to celebrate our greatness as a nation. His psychological strength or lack there-of has caused many including myself to question whether or not this guy is truly one of us(Jamaicans), ha ha ha. Ok. Asafa u WIN!!, we will put some money at the end of the next major championship so u can show us some heart. As for Scott, its not that bad a disappointment, but many including myself were expecting more after his noteworthy performances this season on the circuit. But with all the effort of Powell, it will do little to dent our feelings of elation after the way Shericka Williams came from deep to crush Sanya Richards to Third place in the women's 400m and the way the Awesome Threesome created history in putting Jamaica in the history books as the first nation to win the 100m in both male and female sections and looking to sweep the sprint double, big up ' Jam Dung'

Simoes- Backsliding or Saved?

The sentiments cannot be hidden as many Jamaicans were no doubt happy to see the man who led the team to the 1998 World Cup Games back at the helm. But in his first Major test, the question is, Has he made a major Blunder? i know he believes that Jesus Saves and we in Jamaica being so highly religious have no doubt about that, we also no that God help those who help themselves. Simoes seems to have gone the opposite in seeking to condemn himself and the whole of Jamaica along with himself. There is no doubt that there is Talent in Jamaica and belief must be put in our local talents, but to omit Jamal Campbell-Rice and Marlon King from such a crucial game against Canada seems almost suicidal. King the most prolific over the last couple of months and Campbell- Rice the most attacking threat down the wings will have to be viewed in terms of a blunder in omission. The depth of the crisis becomes more apparent when he preferred to keep long time veteran and 1998 campaign hero Deon Burton despite his lack of potency in recent times both for club and country. I personally welcome back Jermaine Hue as since the team was desperately in need of an attacking link, a general so to speak to compliment Rudolph Austin. I', a firm believer in giving one enough rope to hang one's self, but i hope Simoes realizes that these decisions have only made the rope tighter around his neck. at the end of the day all i can say is Rise Up Jamaica, Stand and take your place... the journey has just begun- Rise Up!!

The squad: Goalkeepers - Donovan Ricketts, Shawn Sawyers.

Defenders - Tyrone Marshall, Ian Goodison, Keneil Moodie, O'Brian Woodbine, Demar Stewart, Demar Phillips, Jermaine Taylor.

Midfielders - Rudolph Austin, Davion Thorpe, Evan Taylor, Jevaughn Watson, Jermaine Hue, Ricardo Gardner, Wolry Wolfe.

Forwards - Deon Burton, Luton Shelton, Omar Cummings, Andy Williams.

Survival Of the Fittest- Running has Anti- Aging Effects!!!

jogger

I know women especially will be out in the parks after hearing this news. Now this is somewhat remarkable as a long standing study has shown that people who run/jog are less likely to show the effects of aging and even outlive non-runners. Now females can stop saving to buy all these ridiculous anti-aging creams and just run for life. I know where i'll be these upcoming weeks/months and years because i have no bias against a beautiful woman out jogging , looking all wet in her skin tight clothes, i'll be chasing them around the park for the sights and for longer life. But on the serious side of business, this study is somewhat groundbreaking as it shows that apart from battling heart disease, and obviously obesity, the study shows that running and aerobic exercise in general battles the development of "cancer, neurological disease, infections and other causes". IF this isn't news enough get off the sofa and get active, i don't know what is, i always wondered why i have such a baby face.No Hating on me please!!!

UEFA Champions League Returns!!!

The qualifying rounds of the UEFA Champions league returned on Tuesday with a Bang with many big name teams stuck in the fight for the $10, 000 000 spot. The  Big names were aroused and Theirry Henry, Alex Del Piero, Samuel Eto's and Emmanuel Adebayor all scoring to see there respective teams taking the early advantage. Enough og the pretty stuff, then came liverpool, a recnt Championlooking very sorry for themselves against a lowly Standard Liege  Team. Not to be bashful seeing that the Gunners of Arsenal themselves looked less than impressive in their  2-0 victory, though they blame that on fielding a very  young team. One ting is for certain, Arsenal will be more potent once all the injuries are overcome and the league will be better with Juventus back in business. King Henry showed much class alongside potent Eto's and Shalke 04 will be a force to be reconed with. Everybody who didn't know, know this, me and my Guners will rule the world this Year!!

Parliamentarians prefer Portia

As the Local P.N.P leade4rship race head under way, there is a familiar feeling in the air that is reminiscent of a race not so long ago, a strong Female personality versus an established Male Leader, Ring A Bell (Pun Intended) as teh J.L.P prepares for what may be an early election.  What is of importance is the way the P.N.P is split down the  middle. This may prove a dangerous plight as it was this division, which despite the obvious popularity of their then candidate ( Simpson-Miller), it was the lack of unity and support at the polls which seemed to have caused the party to relinquish its reigns on Political Power. Peter Phillips is no slouch at the races and will be coming even stronger this time, but for all its worth, members of the party like Dr. Omar Davies constantly tries to bellow out cries of unity and One party, will this be another Clinton/Obama Race or is there more at stake here given Jamaica's political past?

Jamaica- Growing World Power?

The Olympics are well under way and in this the 29th Olympiad, Jamaica has been tipped to have its best ever medal haul. what  is remarkable about this trip also is the variation in events to be competed by the tiny Island that is somewhat of a World Power at the Olympics. Though not the first time, the Aquatics has seen Jamaicans being entered once more and now we also have Equestrian athletes as well as for the first time a Shot Putter. It paves the way for Jamaica as the Jamaicans in the Diaspora opt to ply their craft for their motherland as was demonstrated by Samantha Albert who did us more that proud in the Equestrian competition.  Subsequent to her's dropping out, Albert declared in much Jubilation that she would pledge her efforts into helping to develop Equestrians in the Island , a well known local name coming to mind being young Julian Hyde, son of well known local Football Coach "Lenny" Hyde. We already know how passionate our cyclist are and it is before long that we will be sending our own Athletes there to compete. Of importance also is Jamaica's branching out from the Sprints in Athletics to now competing in the Distance events as the Steeple Chase and 800m athletes become more pronounced. as we are entered into 24 athletic events, the least optimistic of us have great expectations of no less that 16 medals to come from the games. Well as the media houses state, The Real Olympics Starts on Thursday and Our Quest For Gold will officially have begun- Big Up Jamaica, Big Up Yard as we seek to conquer Abroad!!!

The Greatest Olympian Ever?

Michael Phelps

The Olympics are only  5 days in and already Michael Phelps ha sbeen apart of five(5) record breaking perofrmances and in so doing collecting five(5) of a possible eight(8) gold medals. He is now number one(1) of all time in number of Gold Medals won at the Olympics (11) and now look set to be NUmber one in number of Gold medals won at a single Olympic Games. Some Pundits have hailed him as the greatest athlete ever in the history of the game? Fans of Carl Lewis (U.S.A.), Merlene Ottey( Jam-Slo), Mark Spitz(U.S A) and Paavo Nurmi(Fin) would all have something to say about that. You may call it biased, but i certainly believe if one should measure the impact of one's particiaption in the games, Carl Lewis and Merlene Ottey-Page would both qualify to be named the best  Olympians of all time. Though never winning a gold medal for example, Merlene has the enviable record of winning the most medal by a female in a single discipline (Athletics) and not to discount the impact  she has had on a single Nation(Jamaica). Carl Lewis Won a Gold medal for evey event he ever competed in at the Olympics while smashing records after records. The Finnish athlete Paava Nurmi is up there with the best of them ranking above Lewis with more medals won (12). MIchael Phelps however has made a claim for his own greatness with his super performances and must be considered for the crown of the Olympic King/Emperor, Especially if he should manage to cap the other possible three(3) gold medals up for grabs in the Aquatics.

New York Redbulls stormed D.C to win 4-1

A mid week walloping b y F.C Barcelona was enough to awaken a sleeping Red Bulls Team that had Speedy Winger/Forward Dane Richards out due to injury. Thank you Samuel Eto'o for the inspiration, cause Juan Pablo Angel showed his class to ensure defenses in the league remember him being one of the deadliest strikers in the world at one point. The win becomes even more significant in the absence of Jamaican speed demon Dane Richards who will no doubt cause even more turmoil upon his return. The New coach seems to be on the money with the new signings this summer, especially Jorge Rojas. It looks good for the New York Team in the coming games after win in which usually lethal wide man Dave Van den Berg didn't score!!! Watch out league, The Red Bulls are Loose!!

Arsenal and Manchester United end Pre-season with Cup WIns!!

Sevilla v ArsenalUnited Start Where They Left Off

Carlos Vela’s fourth-minute strike gave Arsène Wenger’s youthful side an early lead. A more senior Sevilla team responded impressively. They bossed the latter stages of the first half and all of the second. The Spaniards spurned a host of chances before Javier Chevanton finally converted from close range with nine minutes left.

However the late equaliser was unlikely to change the winners of this year’s Amsterdam Tournament. The event awards an extra point for each goal scored. Therefore this result, and Friday’s 3-2 win over Ajax, gave Arsenal a final tally of eight points. They certainly finish ahead of Sevilla (3pts). The hosts (2pts) and Inter (1pt) were due to kick off after this game finished but, barring a goal-fest, Arsenal had retained the crown they won last year.

Manchester United have begun this season just as they ended the last: with silverware. After dominating but failing to clinch it in normal time, they outclassed a nervous Portsmouth side 3-1 on penalties to win the Community Shield for the seventh time.

August Town- Model Community?

The recent reports have at count 930 murders since the start of the year with Kingston having a murder rate of approximately 105 per 100000. While the government continues to struggle in finding a solution, it would seem that the Jamaican people like they've done so many times over and over, have shown that amongst and within themselves, they can create their own solution. The Community of August Town, a somewhat notorious place for violence, has taken the first step. A much criticized peace treaty was signed and some 46 days post signing, not one deviant act has been recorded, yes, no criminal activity, is that really possible or is it a fable? Whether or not it is, is of little importance. What is significant is that the people of that community have been feeling that much more confident in their safety. The important question however is this, What has the Government done to support these efforts? Recent reports coming form the community is that the efforts so far have been pushed by non-governmental organizations, void of political influence and uniting more 'Cornas' than have been possible before. This sets the pace for other similar communities to follow, what efforst can they organise for themselves to allow ' God to help them' since it is he helps those that help themselves. I'm a firm believer in Governance through localities and August Town has certainly shown so far that when efforts are pooled from within, and where plurality is facilitated, success can be had, almost TWO MONTHS crime free August Town!!! the call therefore is for the Government, and not the "Political Party", to ensure that resources are channelled to encourage these types of efforts so that communities like Glendevon, Norwood, Flankers, Mountain View and other volatile communities around the island can be encouraged to embark upon such a model of development.

Arsenal recovers to beat Ajax in Amsterdam Cup

The recently concluded BPL season was meant with much mix reactions toward the Arsenal team after blowing a new year lead atop the tables. The post 2007/2008 season has seen the Gunners lose just once and that disappointment was taken out on a good Ajax team. The match saw Arsenal bounce back after a 0-2 half-time deficit to win 3-2 on opening day of the Amsterdam Cup. See video below...

Portia vs Peter Phillips

The questions are coming in and people are of the impression that Peter Phillips is wrong for trying to 'denounce' Portia's Crown. But the Coin Has Two sides and on the other hand, we o live in a democratic society. Many are of the opinion that the competition speaks well for the Party which soon seeks to return to Government. It speaks to a party that holds no one person as Don and if in the event of failures, a government that would not be afraid to reprimand itself. So Just who is right and who is wrong in the recent debate about the race for the Party Leadership? The voices have spoken and they say....

No JFLAG liberation!!!

Not so long ago , Jamaica's Prime Minister, Bruce Golding declared on a BBC talk show that as long as he was head of the Government, no 'Gay' Minister could be admitted to his Cabinet. Big up to Bruce. The Same shout out must be given to former Prime Minister P.J Patterson who declared that he won't be pressured into legalizing Homosexuality in this God Blessed place known as Jamaica. Now the pressure is back on and we have seen Panama Buckle under the pressure, they talk of Global Warming, the rasta in me would speak of Global Burning of all such immoral, life discontiuing activities. Olympic Treason

The recent developments that have taken place at the olympic village in China is nothing short of Treason. Thank god for Steven Francis that these are not medieval days. In a time like this when Jamaica is so in need of a force that can unify the nation, the MVP coach has done all he can to caused a rift in the Olympic Camp. Reports are that he seemingly issued an order for his athletes to avoid the team's relay practices with athletes such as Asafa Powell, Nesta Carter, sherone Simpson and Micheal Frater signing on to the action. Speculators have theorised that Francis is upst at not being named part of jamaica's coaching delagtion to the games and sees it as utter disrespect. This however is not sitting well with many jamaicans who look forward to celebrating numerous Gold Medals at this years Games.
