What is the world coming to?

I have always heard about this particular place with a certain type of BULLA. These are not the type of bullas we are used to in Jamaica because these BULLAS walk, talk, drive. The type that a real Jamaican would "bun bare fire pan." To hear from others but to see for yourself is a phrase that remains true.

I went to this talent show with the hope of just relaxing and taking a break from my everyday reading. However, when a particular group was called upon I was taken aback. As a true Jamaican princess, I am extremely intolerant to certain types of behaviour including the BULLA FEST which seems to be a daily activity in this particular place.

Can you imagine someone that God created a male coming unto a stage all dressed up in female apparel and strutting his stuff like a female fashion model.(BULLET, BULLET, BULLET) At this talent show it was not one, nor two but three of these BULLAS displaying how they get their freak on. I started to bun bare fire on the BULLAS and was so irate that i had to exit the room. Some may say I should not have been surprised or acted the way I did because being in this particular place where the BULLAS have all the freedom in the world anything should be expected.

However, when I thought it just could not get any worst, it certainly did. I am used to seeing females with "hickies" moreso than men, and if a man has one I usually say well him "G" mark him up. Bwoi oh bwoi, but to see a man with a bag a "hicky" that has been given by another man is just straight up wrong.(BULLET, BULLET, BULLET) I found this even more difficult to fathom because it was a "yardy man;" a Jamaican youth gone fully "BULLAFIED" with another Jamaican in this particular place. Being the bold person I am, I told this particular youth that he is in need of repentance or else his soul is going to burn in hell.

God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve. This makes it even clearer that it was God's intention for his children to remain straight; but the BULLA dem just lean up the thing so. Their actions have made me "crossed, angry, miserable." MORE FIRE FI A BULLA!

This is so sick

Total Recall!!!

No Brethren, this is not a remake of Arnold Schwarzenegger's decade old classic, this is the trick performed by Jamaica's most renowned Magician, yes, that man Theodore 'Tappa' Whitmore. The exodus of one time messiah Rene Simoes has seen once more the ascendancy of Theodore Whitmore at the helm of the Football programme in the capacity of Caretaker Manager where e will keep the fire blazing until a certain John Barnes assumes his new post. The question on everybody's mind however is where did all these players emmerge from after having been though not good enough, misfits, injured among other arguments for omission.
Just Who are the players in the Total Recall, Claude Davis, Damion Stewart, i thought they were both injured, so how is it they are both back in the team injury free upon Simoes departure? Dane Richards, Omar Cummings, thought not to be good enough by Simoes, i makes u wanty to question Whitmore's judgment.  Up steps the goal machine and the sped demon,   Marlon King and Jaamal Campbell- Rice, maybe Whitmore has the treasury on his side, it was thought both too expensive to fly them home as well as they were seen as misfits after not being able to attain early enough releases from their clubs.  i face no one has seen in the longest time, Jermain 'Teddy' Jonson, i thought he retired, i guess Whitmore must also be an explorer to have located him in the wilderness, where was all this talent at when we realy needed them. Rene Simoes had be givne much sympathy but now i'm at once frustrated and rejuvenated.
the funny thing with this team of outcasts recalled is that , whilst Simoes couldn't work with them, they where the last best team representing Jamaica under Whitmore's wings prior to Simoes' arrival. As it is popularly said, Simoes's tactics have outlived their use, furthermore, it is theorized that asking so many EPL conditioned and EPL minded players to switch to a short knock style of play within the course of three or more days after spending months in a Mental state of mind for the British style hard nosed type of play was always a recipe for disaster. The Worst thing that could happen for Simoes' legacy if for this team of Total rejects that have been placed on Tappa's Total Recall List were to achieve a miraculous advance to the final round. Let's just sit back and enjoy the show, the Magician is on Stage!!!

Argument Done!

And so it's final. Portia Simpson-Miller has been "reconfirmed as the leader of the PNP". I hate to say I told you so, but I'll make an exception in this case. Despite her shortcomings Portia Simpson Miller is the only person who can guide the PNP through these dark and penniless days. Peter Philips simply does not illicit the same kind of response that she does, Portia is a woman on a mission, Peter is a man who thinks he is 'qualified' for the position, and that's the difference. If Bredda P thought he was some kind of a "Barack Obama" coming to 'change course' because of some perceived 'urgency of now', he was simply not the change the delegates  believed in.

But what role will Bredda P play in this new administration? Will Mama P do a 'clean sweep' and replace some of the familiar faces?  We shall see. But I know for a fact that the young guns, those who were vociferous in  defense of their leader, will be lining up to receive their due reward. As for Okola, Spencer et al, I think their political days are numbered.

Speculation aside though, the country is awaiting the details of this "progressive agenda" being touted. Is it just Democratic Socialism  by a different name?  Questions, so many questions. We wait for answers.

Jamaican Economy vs Barbados Economy

In the business world, everyone is paid in two coins: cash and experience. Take the experience first; the cash will come later. However based on how the Jamaican economy has been doing it can not be said that experience has been utilized the way it ought to be (if it has been taken) and it is even more obvious that the cash has not come and seems so far away.

Quite frequently it has been heard that 'nothing nah gwan fi we' in terms of how well the Jamaican economy has been doing. When asked what have led to this, the answers usually include: too much poor people deh bout, too much violence and poor economic policies. As it relates to these answers one may wonder which is more responsible for a stifling effect on our economy and what ought to be done so that Jamaica may bask in economic glory (a dream that seems quite far fetched).

In Barbados (our Caribbean sister country) the economy seems 'to be moving on up.' In comparison to the Jamaican economy, the economy of this country may be described as an eagle which keeps soaring to new heights as opposed to a common hen which keeps perking about. Is it fair however to compare both economies when Barbados boasts a literacy level which is far above that of Jamaica, a lower rate of violence and economic policies which are 'stricter than strict.' Money is not easily sent out of Barbados ( it was not until recently that money could be sent from Western Union) as permission has to be received from the Bank of Barbados as opposed to Jamaica where one can send and receive money as he\she likes.

Additionally, i recently expressed an interest to open a US account in Barbados and was told that i would have to receive permission from the Bank of Barbados and that this was a privilege usually reserved for 'big businesses' as an equivalent of 500,000 Bajan dollars would always have to be in the account. Restrictions, restrictions and more restrictions. However this begs the question of whether the Jamaican economy would have been better if it was fashioned with such restrictions as the Bajan economy.

It is time for a change, a change I am sure we all have been waiting for when the Jamaican economy can have a positive turn around. As a nation we need to stop biting off more than we can chew, and then chewing anyway. Things may come to those who wait, but only the things left by those who hustle. Countries like Barbados should be viewed as hustlers (the government gets 2% of every dollar that comes into the country and it makes it extremely difficult for any to get out). Let us stop hoping to do and begin to do as that is the only way things will get better.

The Prodigal Son? John Barnes for Jamaica!!!

The unexpected firing of Rene Simoes still has the nation rocking sideways, but i guess it should have has us in amazement rather than surprise. Being amazed would have had all Jamaicans wondering " What Next" while Surprise leaves us thinking "What is going On?" The Captain it seems has always had a trick up his sleeve and with the mass outcry for something different from the technical team, it seems that time has finally come, In Steps John Barnes, probably the greatest name in sports outside of Track and Field ever associated with Jamaica. He has returned home, and yes home, he was born here in Jamaica and the time seems ripe for his return. The move also seems to be somewhat a rational one to invite a Coach that is more than familiar with the way the Jamaican game is played. There are admittedly many Brazilian fans in Jamaica, but the reality is , we are a very physical nation and the business of slowing down the game to knock the ball around has never appealed to the Jamaican Player on the field. What's Funny is that the last time there was much impressive play by the Jamaican team was with the short time Theodore Whitmore was in charge, a player with much exposure to the English game, thinking about it, its a style well suited for this crop of players. Where does the bulk of our players develop their skills, yes Britain and so to ask them to revert to something starkly different to that of the Brazilian style of play obviously has been a system of conflict within their own person. There is no disrespect to the efforts to Simoes because he has done much for the development of Jamaican football, but it seems that his approach has rendered itself obsolete for the Jamaican context. The question is however, will there be much fanfare for the return of John Barnes to Jamaica, killing of Goats, jerking of chicken, feasting and the like? Well as it stands, we have a new coach and he will have to prove to the Jamaican people that despite his small resume, he is the right man for the job. One thing is sure to happen with his appointment, he will have the full understanding of the players being so familiar with their strengths coming form the British Game. Time now finally for Claude and Stew peas to shine it would seem, Marlon King, Campbell- Rice and Omar Daley and yes even 'Bibi' Gardener will no doubt be more comfortable not having to reshape their playing style and instead showcase in a forum fit for them, the skills they have been able to hone over their in the U.K. Come home John Barnes because a Jamaica u live!! but for how Long!!! Well he better be able to bake, because every Reggae Boy Fan is waiting to taste that Pudding to see the proof.

Professors, Kings and Magicians

The  Jamaican sports fanatics are still bewildered by the decision to axe  the man dubbed the Professor after consecutive losses away to bothe Mexico and Honduras, but was that the  answer to the problem of an under-achieving football team. Many on the other hand while shocked at Simoes' departure are not at all flustered as they stil consider the coaching talents of Theodore 'Tappa' Whitmore to be very competent.  Prior to Simoes' appointment, it wa sthe magic touch of Whitmore as coach that  captivated many at the National Stadium. Whitmore dubbed the Magician both locally and internationally whist still a player, seemd to have transcended that kind of flare to his coaching style. His ability to pick the right team and instill inthem some sort of philosophy made for soem attractive football and the type reminiscent a young  Brazil team. The magic and trickery though had to stop as a more scientific approach was adopted by the Professor who immediately fell out of terms with Marlon King. King has been Jamaica's most prolfic striker in recent times with almost a goal a game average and yet he could not find favor with Simoes. What is ironic however is the fact just  after the losses incurred in which not a single goal was scored, the outcasted King turned up for a similar strength team to score two goals to beat a similar strenth team to that of Mexico and Honduras. Now that schools out and the profesor is gone home, i think it is high time for the King to play and enjoy the tricks of the MAgician. He will no doubt be part of Whitmore's plans and somebody needs to retire Deon Burton and for the love of God, will somebody find Claude Davis or Damion Stewart? Maybe now also, soembody will pay attention to the work being done by a certan Dane Richards who performed so well for Whitmore prior to Simoes' arrival and yet no call up despite wanting so bad to represent the country.

1 2 3 Green Light- Bruce on the Go- One year On

Two things have always remained constant in my life, the first is a will to achieve and the other is to stay politically neutral and worst of all, stay away from the J.L.P if ever i was to become partisan. Well, this is what many would call the prime of my life and a decision on the latter constant must be made and here it is, i will forever vote Jamaica and right now my vote is leaning on the green side and is based solely on results. What can be said about the One year Anniversary of the J.L.P government. The first sentiment for me is " not bad, not bad at all" taking into account the circumstances under which the Bruce Golding led administration entered office on the back of a devastating Hurricane which rode the waves of the first economic slump in about 15years, i have to say, it  hasn't been politics as usual, but a lesson in management that must be commended on all fronts. The Rice and Flour debacle left many Jamaicans thinking to themselves, " Farin a di place" myself included, but alas, we are still here, thanks to a carefully crafted management decison to buffer the shocks of the escalating oil prices and the threat of a economic depresion in the United States.
Many polls done locally by varioous media houses have all  gven the administration atleat a B grade and that in a course as hard as JA07 is like getting and A+ in much easier courses. Amid a depressing crime problem and much pressure form the Opposition, Bruce a do him ting. The biggest move so far for Bruce has been his stern defense of te Jamaican Way of life which won over the hearts of even the most die-hearted P.N.P party loyalist. What was it he said- " Not In My Cabinet" and that sentiment has been manifesting itself in so many other aspects of his ardent managemnt of the Public Resources. In the J.C.F, he has led the charge ensuring  that as much as possible, Corruption is rid, with so many arrests being made in the heart of the police force itself. aone of the biggest criticism of so many previous administration has been its inability to 'represent the people', again, no problem here.
The recently crowned 'Political Man of the Year' has his own radio/T.V show where CITIZENS, yes as opposed to Members/Loyalists can and do cal in to air their concerns and challenges. So many have been calling  to the talk show to express gratitude for hel recieved, bothe personally and Communally, its his effort to represent the needs of a people, as opposed to fulfilling political aspirations of a personal nature. Now mi nuh know about anybody else, but the best video footage of the year for me is not even the olypic victory of  either Usain Bolt or Shelly- ann Fraser, but that of teh Prime Minister on T.V on the site of the Collapsed Bridge calling in to the NWA to get people out as soon as possible to actually do their job and ensure people can move freely from point A to poin B. That is all it really takes most of the time, just a call from the minister, not just the Prime Minister, but any minister, that is hands on management and if its a political ploy in  search of votes, it got my vote and yes , Mi get Trick. That fro me is the most powerful video this year and on that note i have one thing to say to Bruce Golding as head of this country in such fine form- We Shall Overcome!!!

Sacrificial Lamb

This is Jamaica at its best, politics, politics politics!! Well somebody had to be sacrificed, i know Jesus Saves, But Simoes seems to have met his own Judas after seeking to resurrect what is a Lazarus Football programme. Now let's be realistic, Jamaica could not have beaten Mexico, and given the way the Mexicans had to fight to beat the Hondurans, which Jamaican can say they expected anything more that what we got. The people on the streets all agree on one thing, we don't have the technical capacity to compete against these teams, case in point, it's been 10years since the Tour of France and the 'Reggae Boyz' still can't string a few passes together to break down a defense, no fault of the coach. Simoes, that's just the way it is, it was either you or the Captain and we all know how that set. How do we expect great things from a man, who when he walked in was trying to start a car on a steep, and yes a car as old as a Cartina, this is a joke thing. We are all hopeful of Jamaica going to Africa, but when you send a team to a World Cup Qualifier less that 24hrs before a match in the Azteca and expect miracles, Then its clear hat you view Jamaicans as DAFT , and when as an association you ask a technical Director to make do with Local talent because the it's too expensive to fly home the overseas, more technically sound players, then as the doctor says- "Captain you Lose, Yah , You Lose. I don't know about you, but i think it to be sad when Simoes must put Theodore 'tappa' Whitmore on a fitness programme in consideration for selection, and when after 10years, the best defender is still the man called Goodison, who thank god for him, or else we would have picked up 7-0 from Mexico and 4-0 form Honduras- Good-1- Son.
I heard the Phone call was like this:
Captain- " Rene, Morning Man, You was Sleeping?"
Rene- " Yes Captain, I Just got...."
Captain- " Anyways, before you go any further, Sorry for the 1:00 o'clock wake up, but You Fired, just go Brazil, Don't bother come to Jamaica... Nuh Linga" lol, do yu ting Captain, Do yu Ting!!
